Accomplishments
MQL has already achieved some notable results in the relatively short time we've been working on behalf of Midtown High-Rise/Mid-Rise District residents. Our efforts continue in most of these areas.
Livability
Noise Ordinance
Nightclub Behavior CodeMQL initiated the first Noise Ordinance in the Midtown High-Rise/Mid-Rise District, resulting in improved control of construction noise and some service noise.
MQL established written behavior code agreements with multiple restaurants and bars which are more specific than the city’s Noise Ordinance to minimize issues.
Bar Noise Crowd Enforcement
MQL has worked with the City Department of Nightlife, APD, Midtown Blue, and bar owners to control patrons exiting establishments at closing times. MQL works with APD, Midtown Blue, and bar owners to control patrons exiting establishments at closing times.
Safety
Street Racing
MQL researched successful noise camera programs in other cities and countries. We engaged with local and State officials on implementing similar programs in Atlanta. We partnered with our City Council representative and State Representative to develop a proposal for new State regulations allowing noise cameras, which is currently in the study phase.
Collaboration
Partnering
MQL has built strategic partnerships with organizations and elected officials over the years. MQL continues to advocate for high-rise/mid-rise residents on safety issues impacting our community. Meetings with public officials have included City Council members, Commissioners (Design, Atlanta Department of Transportation), the press, APD members, Diversions, neighborhood associations and homeless advocates. Our monthly meetings have attracted hundreds of residents to discuss concerns and ask questions of these representatives.
Homeless Housing
Outreach
MQL has found housing for a number of homeless individuals in the past and will continue to work with homeless advocates.
Responsible Growth
Solid Waste Fee
MQL initiated the effort to seek compensation for the Solid Waste Fees for which condos were being unfairly charged. MQL partnered with Buckhead Condominium Affiliates and other condo-heavy neighborhoods to remove unjust solid waste fees on condominiums. Result: millions in refunds to owners and a changed solid waste fee ordinance that provides for equitable payments through a general tax shared by all.
Land Use
Building Design
MQL worked with several high-rise developers to improve the functionality of building design to minimize the impact on surrounding structures and traffic flow.
